Last November I pulled up to a traffic light. As I waited for the light to change, I noticed that all the cars heading my way had their headlights on. The day was overcast, but nothing to be concerned about.
I thought about my own car and the fact that as soon as I turn the key, my headlights turn on. It then dawned on me that I could use my own bike light so I am seen by others.
Since then, I do not leave my garage without turning my flashing headlight on.
I picked up a set of recharable batteries and as the lights I have use LED's, I only recharge every month or two.
Consider using your lights as you ride, others in your community will also get the idea.
