I would suggest a waterproof saddle cover for overnite protection. Nuthin' worse than climbing aboard a wet saddle....

Glad to hear that you keep your bike comfortable at night! That's very important when you are counting on it to carry you over hundreds of miles!
Thanks to both of you for this information. It gives me a better picture of this type of thing. I'm starting to get pretty excited for this tour! So tomorrow I'm going on a 60-mile training ride. Wooo-HOOOO! Hope the rain holds off.

| You can put them in the school hallways if there is enough room, otherwise we just kept them by our tents, we tried to camp near chain link fences to hang our wash and lock our bikes to them, although this is the fourth Northwoods for me and I have never heard of anyone getting their bike stolen. I also purchased a cover for mine to keep it nice and warm. Last edited on Fri Jun 15th, 2007 03:19 am by JLubers1

We park our bikes outside the tent, often enclosing our space to prevent encroachemnt by inconsiderate campers. If there are no trees about to support the 'clothesline' then the bikes will do.
We treat the bikes when it rains at night just as we do after a rainy ride; wipe 'em down and thank goodness that the chain was freshly cleaned and oiled.
We rode Cycle North Carolina through Tropical Storm Kyle. It started raining on Tuesday at Noon and rained until Saturday. I didn't even bother to put on dry clothes after showering. Apropos riding our new trikes on BNT; fast trike riders would hit flooded roads at the bottom of grades where the water was deeper than the seat on the trike - and stop.
Some people do put their bikes in (larger) tents and some carry plastic covers. Some people ride on Brooks' leather saddles that must be covered.
Caveat; we are not tenting BNT but motelling so all this rough-'n-ready stuff is easy to say but I'm not gonna practice it.

I don't think I've seen information on this subject yet, but where do we keep our bikes for the night? Especially if it's raining? I'm guessing probably in my tent . . .
